MCM Comic Con London opens scholarship and careers fair for aspiring creatives
Students and young people can apply for a package covering a three-day event ticket, hotel stay and £500 toward travel, portfolios or creative tools, with applications closing on September 28

MCM Comic Con London has opened applications for a new scholarship alongside a three-day Careers Fair aimed at students and young people considering work in the creative industries.
The scholarship includes a three-day weekend ticket for MCM London, a three-night hotel stay near Excel London and £500 that can be used toward travel, portfolio development or tools and resources for creative learning. Applications close at midnight on Monday, September 28.
The wider Careers Fair will run during MCM Comic Con London from October 23-25, with sessions covering routes into video games, film and television, animation, comics, writing, voice acting, music, content creation and professional art.
All Careers Fair sessions are included in the event ticket.
From games development to film and voice acting
Friday’s program includes sessions on careers across the creative industries, music for film, television and games, routes into the video games sector and the skills needed for game design.
IntoGames will cover different disciplines involved in developing, publishing and promoting games, while Joanna Haslam from Snap Finger Click will discuss the skills required for game design and the roles available within the field.
Other sessions look at character creation and building a creative CV, giving attendees practical guidance on presenting their skills when applying for creative roles.
Saturday shifts some of the focus toward film, voice acting, writing and illustration.
Representatives from the British Film Institute will discuss entry routes into filmmaking, while voice actors Bronwen Price, Shin-Fei Chen, Teifion Sussex and JD Kelly will take part in a session on getting started in voice acting.
Writing sessions span games, books and comics, with guidance from people working across video game writing, publishing and tabletop role-playing games. Artists from Western comics and manga will also discuss the different skills involved in their respective formats.
Portfolio building and entry routes into creative work
The final day includes a closer look at some of the practical routes into the games and wider creative industries.
Sessions will examine quality assurance and games testing as an entry point into development, the choice between independent game development and working at an established studio, and careers in marketing and public relations around entertainment brands.
A portfolio-focused session will cover how creative applicants can structure their work, decide what to include and present evidence of their skills to prospective employers. The program closes with recruiters and specialists sharing career advice across film, television, video games, music and comics.
The educational program will run alongside the wider MCM Comic Con London schedule at Excel London, which includes guests, cosplay, anime, tabletop gaming, live performances and meet and greets.
