OpenAI Academy is joining the Alzheimer’s Association, American Diabetes Association and Caregiver Action Network to deliver free AI skills workshops for caregivers and community organizations across five US cities.
The AI Skills Jam for Caregivers & Community Health takes place on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, in Oakland, California; Tampa, Florida; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Atlanta, Georgia; and Detroit, Michigan.
The in-person events will introduce participants to ChatGPT through guided exercises and support from OpenAI facilitators and mentors. No coding or technical background is required.
OpenAI Global Affairs discussed the workshops on LinkedIn: “Caregivers help people navigate some of life’s hardest moments. AI skills can help support that everyday work.”
Practical skills for everyday caregiving
Participants will explore how ChatGPT can help organize caregiver schedules and checklists, turn trusted educational resources into plain-language materials, and prepare discussion guides and follow-up resources for support groups.
Other exercises will focus on finding local services, including transportation and respite care, which provides temporary relief for caregivers.
The workshops are open to individual and family caregivers, organizations providing caregiver education and peer support, and groups helping people navigate chronic or serious illnesses. People living with those conditions can also attend.
Participants will learn alongside others in their communities and leave with resources to continue developing their skills after the event.
Responsible use and privacy are part of the training
The sessions will cover AI foundations and safety before participants work through practical examples with mentors.
Training focuses on non-clinical activities such as coordinating support, preparing educational materials and navigating community resources. Diagnosis, treatment and medical recommendations are outside the scope of the workshops.
Participants will receive guidance on protecting personal health information, following their organizations’ policies and understanding relevant privacy requirements. The event materials also make clear that ChatGPT does not replace qualified healthcare professionals.
Free access and financial support for attendees
Attendees will receive 12 months of ChatGPT Plus at no cost, alongside breakfast and a boxed lunch.
A $75 stipend will help cover travel expenses and time away from caregiving or work. Organizers say the payment will be distributed electronically within 24 hours of the event.
Each workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. local time. Check-in, breakfast and help signing into ChatGPT occupy the first hour, with the main program beginning at 9:30 a.m. An optional practice and question-and-answer session runs from 12:30 p.m.
James Hairston, Global Head of Innovation Policy at OpenAI, invited participants to the Michigan event on LinkedIn: “Join me in Detroit November 10 for our Caregivers and Community Health AI Skills Jam!”
