Google challenges students to build and pitch an AI app in one day at Dublin hackathon
Applications close August 19 for limited places at the in-person event, which also previews Google’s 2027 internship and graduate opportunities
Selected students will develop and present AI applications using Google AI Studio and Cloud Workstations during the one-day event.
Google Ireland has opened applications for a one-day Student AI Hackathon at Google Docks in Dublin on September 11, challenging selected undergraduates to turn an idea into an AI prototype and present it for judging before the day ends.
Participants can develop web apps, mobile products or backend prototypes using their preferred programming language and technology stack. Google says they will use Google AI Studio and Cloud Workstations to build, test and deploy their projects.
Google engineers will provide guidance on architecture, debugging and product strategy. Entries will be assessed on technical execution, product design, innovation, teamwork and realistic business impact.
The highest-rated teams will receive Google hardware and other prizes. All participants are also set to receive Google-branded merchandise.
Five hours of coding before the final pitches
The nine-hour timetable begins with introductions at 9 a.m., followed by an hour-long ideation session. Participants will then receive mentoring and feedback before coding starts at 11 a.m.
Teams have until 4 p.m. to develop their prototypes, with lunch scheduled during the five-hour build window. Projects must be submitted by 4:15 p.m., leaving an hour for presentations and judging before the awards and closing session.
The hackathon also gives students an early look at Google’s 2027 internship and graduate opportunities ahead of its autumn recruitment cycle. Summer 2027 internship applications are due to open in September 2026, while graduate roles are advertised on a rolling basis.
The event is intended for bachelor’s or undergraduate students studying computer science or a related subject. Places are limited, and submitting a registration does not guarantee an invitation.
Applicants must upload an updated CV and give Google access to view it. The company says applications will be reviewed after registration closes, with everyone who applied due to receive an outcome and next steps within one week. Shortlisted participants will receive further event information closer to September 11.
