Roblox and Digital Schoolhouse are developing free game-based computing resources for schools across the UK.

Digital Schoolhouse and Roblox have formed a partnership to produce free computing resources for schools across the UK, giving pupils opportunities to explore game development even where devices or reliable internet access are unavailable.

The organizations will create interactive lesson plans that guide students through building their first games in Roblox Studio. A separate unplugged version is intended to allow schools to deliver the material without depending on classroom technology or connectivity.

Access is a central part of the design. Digital Schoolhouse and Roblox cite figures showing that 45% of households with children fall below the Minimum Digital Living Standard, while two million people aged eight to 25 reportedly lack a device suitable for learning.

The offer extends beyond pupil-facing lessons. A Teacher Toolkit will include safeguarding guidance, materials for parents and support with curriculum alignment. Professional development will also be available to teachers within and beyond Digital Schoolhouse’s existing network.

Digital Schoolhouse is a not-for-profit computing education program powered by Ukie, the UK games industry trade body, together with Nintendo. It delivers free, play-based computing workshops to schools and trains teachers in its methods.

Shahneila Saeed, Director of Digital Schoolhouse, frames the choice of platform around pupils’ existing interests: “Teachers have always known that to engage pupils, you begin with what they love. Right now, for millions of children, that means Roblox - the platform where they play, experiment, and imagine.”

“Roblox games bring concepts to life in ways that immerse learners and motivate them to explore, play, and think deeply,” says Adam Seldow, Senior Director, Education Policy at Roblox.

Digital Schoolhouse and Roblox aim to bring the game-based computing program to thousands of UK schools over the next 12 months.
