Outward Bound campaign encourages families to take a break from screens and reconnect with their communities
Outward Bound, a US-based outdoor education non-profit, has launched The Reset, a national campaign encouraging families to take a break from screens.
The Reset suggests families take one day to log off from devices, get outdoors and reclaim their connections with their local communities.
Taking place on 24 January 2026, The Reset Day will see participants across the US turn off their screens and enjoy time outdoors.
"In 2024, Outward Bound generated nearly 1.5 million hours of device-free time through our experiential education programs. For many students, the challenge of time away from phones on an outdoor adventure is a first-time experience,” comments Ginger Naylor, CEO of Outward Bound USA.
“The Reset invites communities to match that number in a single day – and to reclaim balance in a world of 24/7 news cycles and continuous scrolling. Unplugging is not about what you are giving up; it is about what you are getting back.”
Participants are invited to choose their own idea of what a meaningful break would look like - this could include a walk in nature, art projects, or another activity. Outward Bound is working with a support coalition of national and community organizations to support the campaign.
The Reset is offered free to students, schools, families, and youth organizations across the US.
