University of Vermont seeks Deputy CTO to lead cross-campus technology projects
The University of Vermont has opened applications for a Deputy CTO, outlining a role focused on infrastructure delivery, cross-campus technology coordination, and operational oversight.
The University of Vermont (UVM) has opened recruitment for a Deputy Chief Technology Officer, a role that will support the institution’s enterprise technology operations and strategic infrastructure projects. UVM is a public research university with R1 classification and runs Enterprise Technology Services (ETS), which manages networking, collaboration platforms, research computing, and operational security.
Dr. Kellie B. Campbell, Chief Information Officer at UVM, took to LinkedIn to highlight the vacancy and encourage applications.
The Deputy CTO will work alongside CTO Mike Austin and IT managers to run cross-functional projects with university-wide implications. Responsibilities include coordinating infrastructure teams, supporting day-to-day operations, and tracking progress on major technology initiatives.
In her post, Campbell wrote that the new hire “will play a pivotal role in advancing our strategic infrastructure technology initiatives and partnering close with technology leaders, teams and our broader community.”
The job description notes that the role will support work across Collaboration Services, Endpoint Management, Infrastructure, Network Services, and Research Computing. Tasks include overseeing audit responses, maintaining engineering project lists, monitoring ticket workflows, and participating in contract reviews to ensure acquisitions meet institutional standards.
Candidates are expected to have ten years of experience managing large-scale IT infrastructure, as well as four years of supervisory experience. Required knowledge spans datacenters, networking, servers and virtualization, storage, endpoint management, operational security, and collaboration platforms such as Microsoft 365.
The university also highlights the need for strong project management capability, familiarity with risk mitigation, and an understanding of emerging technologies.
