Inspired Learning AI secures £220k angel funding to extend runway and scale GCSE platform

Existing investors double down as AI-powered GCSE app plans desktop launch, international expansion, and subscription growth through 2026.

Inspired Learning AI has secured £220,000 in angel funding, extending its runway through the end of 2026 and reinforcing investor confidence in its AI-powered GCSE learning platform. The round was led by existing backers who chose to increase their investment, alongside one new angel investor.

The funding comes as the company continues to grow its mobile-first study app, which combines full-curriculum GCSE content with live AI marking and feedback. With more than 10,000 verified student accounts across iOS and Android, the platform is positioning itself as an AI-native alternative in the exam preparation market.

On LinkedIn, Co-Founder and Joint CEO Julian Tomkins said he was “Really pleased to share that Inspired Learning AI has closed a £220k angel round - led by existing investors who chose to double down, alongside one fantastic new angel.” He acknowledged that “It’s not the full amount we initially targeted, but it’s the right milestone: funding runway through the end of 2026 and, more importantly, strong validation from the people who know us best.”

AI marking and curriculum-aligned content

Inspired Learning AI focuses on GCSE subjects including Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Spanish, alongside an adult Spanish course. Students can access content through ebooks, bullet summaries, flashcards, video lessons, audio formats, quizzes, and exam-style questions.

Tomkins explains that the company uses AI to “Efficiently create high-quality interactive course content (always alongside human teachers and subject experts - still absolutely essential)” and to “Provide live AI marking and feedback - even on handwritten maths workings.” The inclusion of handwritten marking aims to replicate elements of traditional exam practice while accelerating turnaround time for feedback.

School and organizational clients are offered a web-based dashboard that tracks student progress by topic and provides visibility into AI-generated marking and feedback. The platform operates a freemium model, with premium subscriptions priced at £49.99 annually or £5.99 monthly, offering unlimited access to courses, quizzes, and AI feedback tools.

Expansion beyond GCSE

With the new funding, the company plans to accelerate content production using updated AI capabilities, expand into additional subjects and international markets, and launch a desktop version to complement its mobile apps.

Tomkins wrote that the next phase will focus on “Accelerating content creation using the latest AI capabilities,” “Expanding beyond GCSE - including international markets and languages,” “Further improving our mobile apps and launching a desktop version,” and “Growing paid individual subscriptions and school licences.” He also signaled that the company expects to raise again in late 2026 or early 2027 once it has demonstrated greater scale.
