Aston University partners with Al Jazeera Media Institute for new MSc Digital Media Communication course

Aston University has announced a new partnership with Al Jazeera Media Institute in Doha, Qatar to offer a new global master’s degree programme in Digital Media and Communication.

Launching in September 2026, the new course aims to prepare students for emerging careers in media such as data journalism, content creation, and digital leadership. It is also open to those with existing industry experience looking to keep up-to-date with changes.

Both Al Jazeera Media Institute and Aston University hope to support innovation in media education with the new Memorandum of Understanding.

Delivered through an online study model, the course allows professionals from across the world to pursue postgraduate studies with the opportunity to attend in-person training at Al Jazeera’s Media Institute in Doha.

“This exciting new partnership is incredibly important for Aston University as it signals our intent to build a between bridge world-leading research and the outstanding professional practice that can be found at Al Jazeera Media Institute,” explains Professor Helen Wood, Director of the MSc in Digital Media and Communications at Aston University.

“Our partnership aims to generate critical, ethical and forward-thinking media leaders of the future capable of working across a range of global media and communication industries.” 

Director of Al Jazeera Media Institute, Eman Al Amri, adds: “This is an incredibly exciting partnership that will enable the Institute to develop advanced digital master’s pathways in partnership with Aston University, combining the strength of internationally recognised academic curricula with our Institute’s extensive professional expertise.” 

The new strategic partnership between Al Jazeera and Aston University also includes the development of additional degree courses that will be delivered between the UK and Doha.
