BT Business to offer AI training to all employees as it announces new AI apprentice and graduate roles
BT Business, a UK broadband provider, has announced new AI training for all of its 11,000 employees alongside the launch of new dedicated AI apprentice and graduate roles.
Across all roles and departments, staff at BT will be invited to complete a course of AI training modules covering fundamentals as well as role-specific skills. The courses will be provided by Avanade and Microsoft, who will also provide dedicated webinars and learning pathways for individual employees.
John James, CEO at BT Business, said in a statement: “At BT Business, we’re using AI to radically transform how we work and to better serve our customers, whether it be SMBs using AI to grow their businesses or enabling critical elements of the UK public sector’s digital transformation.
Apprenticeship in partnership with Multiverse
To coincide with National Apprenticeship Week, BT Business has also launched its first BT apprenticeship and graduate roles dedicated to AI.
Existing BT employees will also be offered new AI and Data apprenticeship opportunities, enabling them to retrain. Delivered in partnership with AI training specialist Multiverse, BT staff will be able to develop new skills in AI, data and automation.
AI Skills Boost
BT says the update aligns with its wider commitment to developing AI skills in the UK, as a founding partner in the Government’s AI Skills Boost program. The scheme aims to train 10 million workers with AI skills by 2030. BT is supporting its employees and customers with access to training to help them participate in an AI-enabled world.
BT’s Apprenticeship Fund has already supported the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, which received £4,500 to support a new HR apprentice. The charity says it could not have made the investment without the funding.
“Our people are at the heart of everything we do. We want to thank the teams at Babington and BT for enabling our people to be part of the BT Group Apprenticeship Fund scheme and further develop our skills,” comments Emily Browne, Head of Education and Training at the charity.
James added: “These new AI training and career pathways are designed to enable our current and future talent to ensure they have the lifelong skills they and BT need for the future, so we can innovate and deliver faster. AI does not transform businesses; people do.”
