Quizlet acquires note-taking app Coconote, launches new AI-powered learning experience
Coconote is a popular study coach capable of turning audio and video recordings into organized notes, quizzes, study games and flashcards. It has attracted more than 1 billion views in the last 18 months, thanks to a social campaign that resonates with college students.
Quizlet says the platform is “ideal for on-the-go or auditory learners” and it plans to use the acquisition to support its vision for supporting student learning in an AI, multi-media, digital-first world.
"Students have more powerful tools than ever, yet they're learning less effectively because those tools don't always work together," explains Quizlet CEO Kurt Beidler. "Today, we solve that. Instead of students adapting to fragmented tools, our new platform, combined with the addition of Coconote, mirrors how learning actually happens, effortlessly moving from question to understanding to application for lasting retention."
With many students with multiple learning tools, Quizlet says its latest AI innovation will allow for seamless transitions. Students can use a prompt or question in Quizlet to receive clear explanations based on what they are actually studying. They can then ask for deeper, generative learning materials based on proven study methods. Quizlet says the update provides seamless connections between each stage of the learning experience.
Writing on LinkedIn, CEO Beidler explained: “We’re launching a new AI-powered learning experience that lets students start with a question, get clear explanations grounded in their own materials, and move seamlessly into proven study methods that foster real understanding and retention—all in one place. For teachers, this new experience supports the development of high-quality, credible content even more efficiently.”
“I’m excited to see how these updates mirror how learning actually happens, empowering learners to reach their full potential,” Beidler added.”
