University of Huddersfield to collaborate with Global Engineer Girls offering international mentorship
The University of Huddersfield will collaborate with philanthropic initiative Global Engineer Girls (GEG). The partnership is one of GEG’s first projects in the UK and is part of a wider drive at the University to improve gender equity and expand opportunities for women in STEM.
Founded in Türkiye in 2015, GEG has supported more than 2,000 young women across eight countries with mentorship, skills development, networking and industry exposure,
“As one of the first partners in the UK for GEG, our female students on STEM courses at Huddersfield will have the great opportunity to have individually tailored training and mentoring from senior women in international industry,” says Dr Karl Walton, Acting Head of Engineering at Huddersfield. “They will also benefit from networking opportunities and the chance to visit Istanbul for the annual GEG gathering.”
The University’s partnership with GEG will initially launch within its Schools of Computing and Engineering. Its first cohort of students will gain access to international mentorship from senior women in engineering and technology sectors.
All participants will also be given individual training programs to support leadership, confidence, and professional readiness.
They will also gain access to a global peer network, connecting students with thousands of aspiring and professional engineers across the world and opportunities for internships, networking, and other international events.
The University plans to expand the scheme to young women across all STEM disciplines following this pilot.
Mustafa Kursat Asardag, Executive Director and CFO of Limak International Limited, added: “We are proud to support the next generation of female engineers at the University of Huddersfield's School of Computing and Engineering, and we look forward to seeing them excel in shaping the future with confidence.
