Google expands Gemini in Classroom to all supported languages
The update widens access to AI lesson planning and study tools for educators and higher education students using Google Classroom worldwide.
Google Classroom rolls out Gemini AI tools across languages, supporting lesson planning, personalized learning, and student study workflows.
Google has expanded Gemini in Google Classroom to all supported Classroom languages, increasing access to AI-powered tools for educators and higher education students across global education systems.
The update, which began rolling out on April 13, moves Gemini beyond its initial English-only availability and allows users to access AI features in their preferred language. For institutions using Google Workspace for Education, this broadens access to tools already embedded within existing teaching and learning workflows.
Gemini tools extended across languages
Within the Gemini tab in Classroom, educators can generate lesson plans, quizzes, and instructional content, as well as translate materials and address common misconceptions.
Google says additional content generation features will be introduced in the coming weeks.
Educators can also use starter prompts to support routine classroom tasks, including creating differentiation strategies, drafting exemplar responses, and developing Depth of Knowledge questions.
The expansion increases the number of educators who can use these tools without switching language settings or relying on translation workarounds.
Student features focus on study workflows
Higher education students using Gemini in Classroom can access Guided Learning for step-by-step explanations, along with quiz tools that provide hints and feedback.
The platform also allows students to create flashcards and generate study guides based on selected topics or uploaded materials.
By keeping these tools within Classroom, Google is building on existing usage patterns rather than introducing separate AI products, which may support faster adoption among students already using the platform.
Access to Gemini in Classroom is enabled by default for Google Workspace for Education users but can be managed by administrators. The features are limited to users aged 18 and over, based on institutional settings.
Gemini starter prompts open in the Gemini app, with access governed separately through app-level controls.
Google notes that some Classroom features, including Read Along, Practice Sets, and Originality Reports, are not available in all languages, which may affect consistency across regions.
The rollout is expected to take more than 15 days for full visibility across domains.
