Anthropic hires former Microsoft India chief Irina Ghose to lead India expansion
Anthropic has appointed Irina Ghose as Managing Director of India as it prepares to open a Bengaluru office and grows activity with enterprise, policymakers, and academia.
Anthropic, the AI company behind Claude and Claude.ai, has appointed Irina Ghose as Managing Director of India, ahead of plans to open its first office in the country in Bengaluru.
Ghose most recently served as Managing Director at Microsoft India. Anthropic said her remit included leading enterprise AI adoption across sectors including banking and financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, and government.
The appointment comes as Anthropic prepares to establish an on-the-ground presence in India.
The India team will focus on work with policymakers and academic institutions, strengthen developer engagement, and build partnerships with enterprises and organizations using AI to address local challenges.
The company said India ranks as the second-largest market globally for Claude.ai.
Anthropic points to India’s technical usage patterns
Anthropic also pointed to findings from its fourth Economic Index, saying Indian users show a strong focus on technical applications. The company said nearly half of all Claude.ai usage in India is concentrated in computer and mathematical tasks.
Ghose says, “India has a real opportunity to shape how AI is built and deployed at scale. Indian organizations are moving beyond experimentation toward applied AI, where trust, safety, and long-term impact matter as much as innovation. Anthropic’s mission resonates with my belief that technology should empower people, expand access, and create lasting value across India’s diverse languages and communities.”
Anthropic positioned Ghose’s background in scaling large technology operations and enterprise transformation as central to its next phase in India, particularly as it builds relationships across public and private sectors.
Ciauri says, "Irina's expertise in scaling technology businesses and driving enterprise transformation makes her the ideal leader as we expand. As we grow our teams and deepen engagement across India’s public and private sectors, Irina will ensure our approach is grounded in local insight and aligned with our mission."
