Anthropic opens free Claude for Teachers Enterprise access to U.S. schools and districts

Qualifying organizations must enroll by June 30, 2027, with educator usage capped at the same level as individual accounts

Claude for Teachers is now available through centrally managed accounts for qualifying U.S. K-12 schools and districts

Anthropic has extended Claude for Teachers from individual educator accounts to centrally managed deployments across U.S. K-12 schools and districts. The free Enterprise arrangement allows administrators to bring teachers and staff into one organization, set shared policies and manage access through single sign-on and role-based controls.

The Enterprise option became available on August 28. Qualifying schools and districts that sign up by June 30, 2027 will receive a full year of free access.

Anthropic introduced individual Claude for Teachers accounts in July, giving verified U.S. K-12 educators free access to teaching tools, state academic standards and curricula mapped to those standards. The new arrangement moves adoption to the organizational level, including the transfer of previously verified educators into their school or district’s managed account through domain capture.

To set up an account, a school or district administrator must complete verification, accept Anthropic’s K-12 Terms and student data privacy agreement, and connect the organization’s email domain and single sign-on system. Administrators can then add and remove staff, assign access permissions, set policies and monitor adoption across schools.

Central management comes with individual usage caps

The district offer does not give educators higher usage limits than those attached to individual Claude for Teachers accounts. Anthropic says overage billing is disabled by default, although administrators can choose to turn it on.

Schools and districts receive Enterprise features including role-based access control, domain claiming and single sign-on. Domain capture moves teachers who have already verified an account using the organization’s domain into the centrally administered environment.

The organization also holds a single set of K-12 Terms and a Data Processing Agreement covering participating accounts. Anthropic describes its commitments as FERPA-aligned and says Claude for Teachers data is not used to train its models. Student information is covered by the company’s K-12 Data Processing Agreement.

Educators retain access to Claude’s teaching skills, academic standards for all 50 states and curricula mapped to them. The offering also includes connections to tools used by K-12 teachers, although Anthropic does not identify those integrations in the announcement.

New teaching skills and a Detroit evaluation

Two additional teaching skills, co-developed with Learning Commons, have been added for the start of the school year.

The lesson preparation skill is designed to help teachers identify and plan for key moments in an upcoming lesson. A separate check for understanding skill creates short, standards-aligned activities intended to reveal students’ current thinking. The latter is limited to mathematics at launch.

Anthropic has also made accessibility updates to student-facing materials and added a preparation stage to its existing lesson planning skill.

The Claude for K-12 Academy now includes updated AI fluency courses, guides and classroom workflows for teachers, instructional coaches and district teams. Its resources include an AI fluency course for pre-K-12 educators created with Teach For America and a separate train-the-trainer course.

Anthropic is also planning an evaluation of Claude for Teachers in Detroit Public Schools Community District this fall. The company says it will work with teachers to study the tool’s effects on educator well-being and practice, but has not provided the scale or design of the evaluation.

U.S. K-12 school and district leaders can begin the verification process now. Qualifying organizations must sign up by June 30, 2027 to receive the full year of free access.
