Anthropic is expanding its presence in London with a new office in the city’s Knowledge Quarter, increasing capacity as it scales research, safety, and commercial operations in the UK.
The company currently employs more than 200 staff in London, including around 60 AI safety researchers, and plans to grow significantly, with the new space expected to accommodate up to 800 people. The move places Anthropic alongside other major AI firms already based in the area, as competition for talent and infrastructure continues to increase.
London positioned as a core AI hub outside the US
The expansion was shared in a LinkedIn post by Pip White, Head of UK&I, Northern Europe & Israel at Anthropic, who outlined the company’s growing focus on London as a key international base.
White said the UK combines “ambitious enterprises and institutions that genuinely understand what’s at stake with AI safety, a government that takes the technology seriously, and an exceptional pool of AI talent.”
She added: “London has become one of our most important hubs outside the US. Our team here is now 200+ strong, including around 60 AI safety researchers, and the work happening in this city sits at the heart of both our research and commercial momentum in Europe.”
The new office will be located in the Knowledge Quarter, an area that already hosts a concentration of AI companies including Google DeepMind, Meta, Synthesia, and Wayve.
Growth follows increased demand for AI tools and infrastructure
Anthropic has continued to expand its product and research activity, including the release of Claude Code and its Mythos model, which focuses on identifying software vulnerabilities.
The company reports annualized revenue exceeding $30 billion, with more than 1,000 enterprise customers each spending over $1 million annually. It also raised $30 billion earlier this year at a $380 billion valuation, with further investment interest reported.
The expansion comes as AI companies increase hiring and infrastructure investment across Europe, particularly in cities with established research ecosystems and access to skilled talent. It also follows OpenAI’s recent announcement of its first permanent London office, further signaling growing competition for talent and presence in the UK capital.
