ETIH Innovation Awards 2026: spotlight on Best Lifelong or Flexible Learning Solution

We’re continuing our series exploring each category in the ETIH Innovation Awards 2026, taking a closer look at what the judges expect and what makes a strong submission.

This edition focuses on Best Lifelong or Flexible Learning Solution, a category celebrating platforms that support ongoing learning outside formal education structures. Entries should demonstrate flexibility, accessibility, and meaningful learning outcomes for adult or non-traditional learners.

What this category covers

This category highlights solutions designed to support learning that fits around work, life, and personal commitments. Eligible entries include platforms used in adult education, workforce learning, higher education, and informal learning settings.

Entries may include solutions for:

  • microlearning and bite-sized content

  • mobile-first or on-demand learning experiences

  • self-paced or modular learning pathways

  • credentialing, digital badges, or stackable learning

  • learning designed for adult or returning learners

  • accessibility-first design for diverse needs

  • AI-supported personalization and pacing

  • learning analytics to track progress and outcomes

Solutions must demonstrate meaningful adoption.

What judges will look for

Judges will assess whether the platform delivers genuine flexibility while supporting effective learning outcomes.

Entries should address:

  • how the solution adapts to different schedules, contexts, or learner needs

  • evidence of accessibility and inclusive design

  • measurable outcomes such as completion, progression, or skill acquisition

  • how learning quality is maintained in flexible or self-directed models

  • user feedback from adult or non-traditional learners

  • scalability across sectors, regions, or learner groups

Strong submissions will show that flexibility enhances, rather than dilutes, learning.

How to strengthen your submission

Entrants are encouraged to explain how learner research, workforce demand, or adult learning theory informed the platform’s design. Judges value evidence that flexibility is intentional and well-structured.

Submissions will be strengthened by:

  • data showing engagement, completion, or return learning

  • examples of how learners apply skills in real-world contexts

  • case studies highlighting accessibility or inclusion

  • evidence of adaptability across devices or environments

Clear articulation of learner outcomes will strengthen the overall submission.
