SimpleStudy claims world-first as it launches nationwide mock exams across the UK and Ireland
SimpleStudy, an exam preparation app, has announced plans to host a fully synchronized mock exam across the UK and Ireland in what it claims will be a world first.
Over the Christmas holidays, GCSE and A-Level students using the SimpleStudy app will be given access to exam papers covering all subjects. The papers were created by the app’s content team, tailored to specific exam boards.
Running between 27 December and 2 January, the mock exams will give students the same 24-hour window to sit a timed, interactive exam on their mobile or desktop, mirroring GCSE and A-Level conditions.
SimpleStudy says this will be the first time digital mock exams have ever taken place outside of school settings, providing students with a realistic exam experience without the need for teachers, invigilators, or physical exam halls.
“Exams can be incredibly daunting for students, which is why giving them the opportunity to practise in exam-style conditions is so important to us,” Phillip McKenna, Co-founder of SimpleStudy, tells ETIH.
“Our digital mocks are designed to be as similar as possible to the actual exam - reflecting key elements of formal exams - they’re timed, taken simultaneously by students across the UK and Ireland, and use unseen, original content — while being accessible to complete from home. The shared experience allows GCSE and A-Level students to build confidence in conditions that closely reflect real exams, helping reduce anxiety and boosting exam preparedness.”
On 6 January, participating students will be given grades for each subject, including a detailed mark breakdown for each subject, and question-by-question explanations. They will also be given personalized study recommendations. McKenna says SimpleStudy believes this will be a highlight of the process.
“We’re especially excited about the results-day moment and buzz on the 6th January, which mirrors the anticipation of the real day while helping students see the bigger picture,” he adds.
“Students will also receive instant feedback after completion, giving them a clear picture of their strengths and where to focus their revision over the Christmas holidays. It gives them a clear sense of progress, keeps motivation high, and supports greater confidence as they head into their real exams.”
