Oak brings its curriculum directly into Google Classroom with new add-on

Oak National Academy has expanded its UK platform by integrating its curriculum resources directly into Google Classroom, formalizing a workflow already used by many schools and strengthening its presence inside one of the sector’s most widely used systems.

Oak National Academy has added a Google Classroom add-on that allows teachers to attach Oak lessons directly to assignments, removing the need to move between platforms. The change embeds Oak’s national curriculum resources into a system already used daily by a significant proportion of UK teachers.

Oak confirmed the new add-on after CEO John Roberts shared details on LinkedIn. He wrote that teachers had consistently said “the most useful tools are the ones that fit seamlessly into your everyday practice,” adding that for many schools, “that practice already sits within Google Classroom.”

Roberts pointed to research from Teacher Tapp indicating that around a third of teachers used Google Classroom as their learning management system. He said Oak lessons were already being shared into Classroom for homework, revision, and additional support, with the add-on designed to make that process faster and more structured.

Visibility and tracking inside Google Classroom

The add-on allows teachers to attach Oak lessons to assignments in a few clicks, with students accessing and completing activities directly within Google Classroom. Teachers can then view completion status and quiz results without leaving the platform.

Oak shared that the aim was to improve visibility of student progress while avoiding additional tracking tools or manual checks. The integration is positioned as supporting independent learning, particularly in secondary settings, where Google Classroom is commonly used to manage assignments and routines.

The add-on was built with data protection in mind. The system securely recognizes teachers but does not store student names or email addresses, with all personal data remaining within Google’s infrastructure.

The organization confirmed that its content remains free and optional to use. Teachers retain access to Oak’s full library of sequenced, national curriculum-aligned lessons and can choose whether to integrate the add-on into their classroom workflows.

The move sits alongside Oak’s broader remit as an independent public body supporting curriculum delivery, as it continues to focus on reducing teacher workload while maintaining central oversight of quality and access.
