The courses cover AI literacy, human-AI collaboration, teaching, student use, and nonprofit applications, with a foundational three-hour course recommended as the starting point.

Anthropic has launched five free AI fluency courses on Coursera, expanding its learning content beyond Claude training and adding courses for educators, students, and nonprofit professionals.

The courses are available on Coursera as Community Impact courses, a Coursera category used to expand access to learning on urgent social needs.

The course series is co-taught by Anthropic instructors, Professors Rick Dakan and Joseph Feller, who developed the research-backed AI Fluency Framework, and Giving Tuesday.

The foundational course, Anthropic AI Fluency: Framework and Foundations, is listed as beginner level and takes around three hours. It covers AI literacy, human-AI collaboration, and generative AI, with learners applying a 4D framework to hands-on projects.

Coursera CEO Greg Hart also posted about the launch on LinkedIn, saying Anthropic had launched “five free AI fluency courses on Coursera to help learners worldwide build practical AI skills.”

Five free AI courses added to Coursera

The five courses cover general AI fluency and applied use in education, student learning, and nonprofit work.

AI Fluency: Framework and Foundations introduces the 4D framework and focuses on ethical and effective collaboration with AI. Coursera recommends starting with this course before moving into the specialized courses.

AI Fluency for Educators covers course design, teaching materials, and authentic assessments grounded in pedagogy. Teaching AI Fluency focuses on helping educators integrate AI into curriculum design and assessment, including managing AI-enhanced student work.

AI Fluency for Students covers the use of AI as a thought partner for learning and career growth, while keeping critical thinking and creativity in place.

AI Fluency for Nonprofits covers AI use across fundraising, outreach, communications, and operations.

Anthropic expands beyond Claude training

The launch nearly doubles Anthropic’s course catalog on Coursera, according to Coursera, and moves the catalog beyond direct Claude training into broader AI fluency.

Baker Stein says Anthropic remains focused on helping people navigate the shift around AI tools.

“As demand for Anthropic’s AI tools continues to grow, the company remains committed to guiding the world through this major technological shift. Accessible AI education is central to that mission, and we’re proud these courses will be available on Coursera for free as Community Impact courses, which expand access to learning on urgent social needs.”

Hart also linked the courses to workforce readiness, particularly for graduates entering employment.

“AI fluency is essential in today’s workforce, especially for new graduates entering the job market,” Hart wrote. “We’re proud to offer these courses for free on Coursera to help more learners build the skills needed for the jobs ahead.”

Courses for educators, students, and nonprofits

The education-focused courses are likely to be the most relevant for schools, colleges, universities, and teacher development teams looking at how AI should be taught and assessed.

The educator course covers how AI can support course design, teaching materials, and assessment. The Teaching AI Fluency course focuses on preparing students for an AI-first workforce through curriculum integration and real-world application.

Hart said the foundational course is “a great place to start” for learners building confidence around real-world AI use.

“Learners build confidence to apply AI thoughtfully, responsibly, and effectively in real-world settings — while strengthening creativity, judgment, and decision-making skills,” he wrote.

The courses are now available on Coursera. Coursera says learners should begin with AI Fluency: Framework and Foundations before moving into the educator, student, teaching, or nonprofit courses.
