Nord Anglia students explore innovation and impact at MIT through global learning partnership
Students from Nord Anglia Education schools worldwide have completed a weeklong program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, combining hands-on science, design, and collaboration as part of the organisation’s long-standing partnership with MIT.
Nord Anglia Education, a global network of premium international schools, has wrapped up its annual MIT Student Trip, held in Boston, Massachusetts. The weeklong initiative brings together students from its international schools to experience applied science, engineering, and innovation through workshops and lectures led by MIT faculty and researchers.
Students spent the week engaging in interactive sessions focused on STEAM learning and global problem-solving. Workshops included Catching Physics in the Act, Origami Engineering, and visits to MIT research facilities such as the Plasma Science and Fusion Center, MIT Motorsports, and BioMaker Space.
Amirbek, a student from The British School of Tashkent, described the experience as transformative: “Before coming to MIT, I didn't realise that the objects which we interact with daily can have so much depth and creativity behind them. Even though it is only our first day at MIT, my experience so far has been so enjoyable, and I am elated to be here.”
The program’s design centers on collaboration, with students from different Nord Anglia schools forming mixed teams to work on shared experiments and research challenges.
Student projects in zero gravity and climate action
Midweek, students attended a Climate Action Summit, where they explored the intersection of science, innovation, and environmental activism. Later sessions focused on designing experiments suitable for zero-gravity environments, encouraging participants to translate classroom learning into practical applications.
Yasmine, a student from Amman Academy, highlighted how collaboration and exposure to MIT’s research culture deepened her interest in technology and teamwork: “I really enjoyed the opportunity to talk to current MIT students, learning about their experiences, and being inspired by what they hope to accomplish in the future. I am looking forward to working on our zero-gravity project and presenting it with the new connections that I have made with students from other Nord Anglia schools.”
Insights from MIT researchers and students
Throughout the week, students heard from MIT researchers and undergraduate mentors who discussed academic pathways, research ethics, and the realities of campus life. A highlight was a live lecture on Ancient Earth, which offered students a chance to engage directly with cutting-edge scientific inquiry.
Miley, from Nord Anglia International School Hong Kong, shared how the experience expanded her academic interests: “This is my first time in the United States, and something that has made the trip so memorable is getting to tour the beautiful MIT museum and campus, enjoying delicious food, and getting to experience a live lecture about Ancient Earth. The lecture in particular allowed me to expand my horizons and have a deeper fascination with the potential for human greatness.”
The trip concluded with a Project Exposition, where students presented outcomes from their workshops and experiments. Projects focused on problem-solving, teamwork, and the application of AI and engineering principles to real-world issues.
Nord Anglia Education said the program continues to strengthen its global collaboration with MIT by helping students connect scientific knowledge with creativity and social responsibility.
