New York City schools roll out Speechify access under Department of Education partnership

Speechify has confirmed a new partnership with the NYC Department of Education that gives students across the city access to its premium text-to-speech and voice tools.

Speechify has partnered with the New York City Department of Education to make its premium voice-based accessibility tools available to students across the city’s public school system.

In a LinkedIn post, Speechify wrote that students across New York City public schools now have access to Speechify Premium, including tools that read digital content aloud and convert speech into text. According to the company, students can use the platform on school computers to listen to webpages, PDFs, and homework assignments, as well as on mobile devices to support reading outside the classroom.

The company stated: “Now, students across New York City public schools have access to Speechify Premium.”

Speechify also highlighted that students can use the tool both to listen to written material and to speak responses that are transcribed into text, positioning the platform as a support tool for reading, writing, and accessibility needs rather than a standalone learning system.

AI tools enter district-wide deployment

The partnership places Speechify within one of the largest public school systems in the United States, where decisions around AI adoption tend to prioritize scale, accessibility, and compliance over experimentation. While the company framed the announcement as part of wider government interest in AI tools for education, the rollout reflects a more practical focus on assistive technology already familiar to many schools.

Speechify wrote that it was “exciting to see governments at every level across the world embrace AI tools,” while emphasizing student use cases tied to reading completion and written work rather than curriculum delivery or assessment.
