Four short films aim to help audiences understand and use AI safely, as announced in a LinkedIn post by BBC Ideas Executive Editor Bethan Jinkinson.

The BBC has released a series of four short videos designed to introduce audiences to generative AI and its everyday applications. The content is aimed at viewers with little or no prior experience of AI tools.

BBC Ideas, which produces short-form factual content for digital platforms, developed the project with The Open University’s STEM faculty. OOF Animation Ltd provided animation, while the BBC’s Generative AI team supported production. The videos are narrated by the BBC’s Technology Editor, Zoe Kleinman.

The four videos cover: how to get started with AI chatbots, ways AI can improve life at home and work, identifying AI-driven scams, and the role of AI in student homework. Each is designed to highlight both opportunities and risks of AI adoption.

Bethan Jinkinson, Executive Editor at BBC Ideas, shared the launch in a LinkedIn post: “Today the BBC launched a new series of four short videos on AI Literacy - with the aim of empowering audiences to use AI smartly and safely. The videos were developed very much with audiences new to Gen AI in mind, and cover the following topics: How to get started with AI chatbots; How AI can improve your life - at home and work; Can you spot an AI scam?; Should your kids use AI in their homework?”

Jinkinson added: “Narrated by the BBC's Tech editor Zoe Kleinman, the series was made in partnership with The Open University (particularly the STEM faculty and Broadcast PM Matthew Ray), animated by the brilliant OOF Animation Ltd, and supported by Emma Purchon and Rachel Jupp from the BBC's Generative AI team. It was a fabulous project to work on from start to finish.”

She concluded: “I hope you (or people you know) find them useful - all feedback very welcome. Please do share on your timelines!”
