Wiley uses AI to enhance zyBooks STEM college courseware for students and instructors

AI

Wiley, an educational publisher, has added new AI-powered tools to its zyBooks courseware program, launching in the next school year.

The new tools are designed to improve instruction, learning outcomes, and academic integrity in zyBook college STEM courses. Wiley hopes the innovations will benefit both students and instructors.

The new features include:

  • zyLabs AI Hints

  • Generate with AI for zyLabs

  • zyBooks Assessments

  • Student Behaviour Insights

zyLabs AI Hints offers an AI-powered tutor, providing feedback to students when they hit a barrier in their zyBooks coding lab. Rather than providing answers, the tutor helps them to get back on track with hints and tips on where they might be going wrong.

Generate with AI for zyLabs enables instructors to create their own assignments, tailored to their students’ needs and particular courses.

zyBooks Assessments allows instructors to create their own course tests that can be included alongside reading content, interactive content and homework in the same platform.

The new Student Behaviour Insights tools helps instructors identify students who are struggling with assignments and those who may be using AI inappropriately.

All of the new tools are offered at no additional cost to zyBooks users.

“Wiley is dedicated to taking a deliberate, research-driven approach to developing AI tools to ensure that they address real challenges faced by our customers,” says Lyssa Vanderbeek, Wiley Group Vice President for Courseware. “Our ultimate goal is to help students learn, so we work diligently to ensure that our innovations generate meaningful outputs that provide value to both students and instructors.”
