University of Massachusetts invests in Metafoodx AI Scanners in a bid to reduce food waste in campus dining halls
The University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass Amherst) is investing in Metafoodx AI Scanners for its campus dining halls, aiming to reduce food waste and improve sustainability.
Metafoodx AI Scanners help reduce food waste, optimize menus and increase efficiency by using advanced automation and data analytics. The university has already seen a 51.7 percent decrease in food overproduction in its Harvest Market in just 12 weeks after introducing the technology.
Metafood claims its AI-powered food operations platform can achieve a 200 percent return on investment within weeks of deployment by helping commercial kitchens reduce waste and optimize production.
“Reducing food waste has been a top priority for us – not just for cost savings, but for sustainability,” explains Ken Toong, Assistant Vice Chancellor at UMass Auxiliary Enterprises, which includes UMass Dining. “Expanding our investment in Metafoodx was the natural next step for us, and we’re thrilled to continue working with Metafoodx to build a smarter, more sustainable kitchen."
"We are proud to see our technology helping customers achieve measurable results,” adds Fengmin Gong, CEO at Metafoodx. “Their decision to expand the partnership and add more of our AI Scanners reflects the growing value of AI-driven food intelligence in building safer, more sustainable kitchens. At Metafoodx, we remain committed to empowering our partners with the tools they need to improve operations, reduce waste, and advance their sustainability goals."
