UCL targets new research partnerships in Korea with support from Intralink

University College London has appointed consultancy Intralink to explore industry collaboration opportunities in Korea’s mobility and technology sectors.

University College London is taking steps to build new research and commercial collaborations in Korea, appointing international consultancy Intralink to support early engagement.

UCL is a major UK higher education research institution known for work in areas including advanced mobility and clean energy. The university was recently selected as the first UK host of a Global Industrial Technology Cooperation Centre, a Korean government initiative connecting corporate partners with international university researchers.

The appointment indicates a move toward identifying research-led opportunities in Korea’s mobility sector. Korea’s transport network and automotive industry provide a large commercial base.

Intralink to lead initial conversations

Intralink works with companies and government agencies on overseas market development, supporting clients seeking customers, partners, or investment. The firm operates in 27 locations, including Seoul, Tokyo, Singapore, Boston, and London.

UCL says Intralink’s Seoul team will begin discussions with companies in automotive, shipbuilding, and related fields, focusing on areas aligned with UCL’s strengths such as battery design, energy systems, and digital mobility applications. These discussions reflect early-stage exploration rather than established program activity.

Geraint Rees, UCL Vice Provost of Research, Innovation and Global Engagement, says: “UCL is delighted to be working with Intralink. Its multi-national team will accelerate our ability to build productive partnerships with high technology companies in and beyond Korea. In doing so, we aim to reinforce UCL's position as a hub for driving forward globally-connected knowledge, discovery and world-leading research to deliver positive change."

Support for UCL’s new GITCC

Intralink will assist Professor Jeom-Kee Paik, Director of UCL’s new Global Industrial Technology Cooperation Centre, in arranging early meetings with potential Korean partners. The center is expected to support international industrial research links, though UCL has not yet set out the first projects.

Professor Paik says: “The UCL GITCC team appreciates the trusted market insight that Intralink’s excellent Seoul-based team can offer in supporting our researchers as we widen and deepen our portfolio of technology relationships in Korea.”

Narai Kim, Managing Director of Intralink Korea, says: “There’s strong and growing demand among Korean companies for research partnerships with globally respected universities such as UCL. We’re looking forward to working with the UCL team to get this project underway.”
