Too Good To Go launches Next Gen program in UK schools to cut food waste
Free handbooks for children aged six to eleven aim to build awareness of food waste at home and in classrooms.
Too Good To Go, the global marketplace for surplus food, has launched Next Gen in the United Kingdom, a free education program for children aged six to eleven focused on reducing food waste.
The company connects consumers with retailers to purchase unsold food at discounted prices and says the new resources are designed for families, classrooms, and after-school clubs.
Free handbooks for young learners
The program offers two downloadable handbooks. What in the world is food waste? introduces the concept of food waste, where it comes from, and its environmental impact. How to avoid food waste gives children simple, everyday steps such as smarter storage tips and zero-waste recipes.
Next Gen is available through Too Good To Go’s newly launched Education Hub, a digital platform offering resources for people of all ages. The Hub also features the Look, Smell and Taste campaign, which encourages people to check food beyond its Best Before date before throwing it away, and Business Leaders of Tomorrow, which showcases case studies from INSEAD and Copenhagen Business School on integrating sustainability into business education.
Scaling lessons from Europe
The UK launch builds on previous school programs in France and Denmark, including Mon École Anti-Gaspi, which reached more than 4,000 schools. By bringing these initiatives together, the company is now making the resources available globally.
Sophie Trueman, Country Director UK & Ireland at Too Good To Go says: “With over 500 million meals already saved from going to waste globally and over 45 million in the UK alone, Too Good To Go believes that engaging the next generation is critical to building a more sustainable future. By inspiring and empowering the next generation to fight food waste together, we can expand our impact for both people and the planet.”
