Tech Trek launches in Upper Dublin, offering guidance on device readiness, social media safety and screen habits

The Upper Dublin Education Foundation, a non-profit based in the Upper Dublin School District in Pennsylvania, has launched a new scheme aiming to support families with digital parenting.

Tech Trek: Navigating the Digital Highway is an online resource that helps families make informed decisions about their use of technology. It offers research-backed guidance on device readiness, social media safety, gaming communities, and health screen habits.

The scheme was developed in collaboration with experts in digital wellbeing and child development, as well as local parents and community leaders. It emphases the need to teach skills before granting children independence and advocates for open communication without being controlling.

The scheme also asks parents to model positive online behaviour.

"Parenting in the digital age is one of today's most pressing challenges," explains Michelle Boas, Executive Director at the Upper Dublin Education Foundation. "Technology shapes so much of our children's lives, bringing both opportunities and real concerns. Tech Trek gives families the tools to navigate digital well-being so students can stay engaged, healthy and ready to thrive."

The Upper Dublin Education Foundation says it will promote the scheme at community events and plans to launch an advisory council of local experts and community leaders to guide its ongoing offer.
