This category recognizes individuals or organizations shaping global education through influential EdTech insight, research, and advocacy.

We’re continuing our series exploring each category in the ETIH Innovation Awards 2026, taking a closer look at what the judges expect and what makes a strong submission.

TThis edition focuses on EdTech Thought Leader of the Year (Global), a category celebrating individuals or organizations that are shaping the direction of education technology through writing, speaking, research, or advocacy. Entries should demonstrate influence, credibility, and real-world impact on policy, practice, or innovation.

What this category covers

Entries may include evidence of:

  • published research, articles, or commentary

  • sustained contribution rather than one-off commentary

Entries should demonstrate influence and activity over the past twelve months.

What judges will look for

Judges will assess whether the thought leadership has driven meaningful change or influenced decision-making within education or EdTech.

Entries should address:

  • the ideas, themes, or positions the nominee is advancing

  • the platforms or channels through which influence is delivered

  • evidence of reach, engagement, or adoption of ideas

  • impact on policy, institutional practice, or innovation

  • credibility, rigor, and originality of contribution

  • feedback or recognition from peers, institutions, or audiences

Strong submissions will show that ideas have moved beyond conversation into action.

How to strengthen your submission

Entrants are encouraged to connect ideas to outcomes. Judges value evidence that thought leadership has influenced real decisions, practice, or system-level change.

Submissions will be strengthened by:

  • concrete examples of impact or influence

  • case studies showing how ideas shaped practice or strategy

  • evidence of sustained contribution and leadership over time

Clear articulation of how ideas translate into impact will strengthen the submission.
