Duolingo to offer all users AI-powered feedback tool Explain My Answer, starting in the New Year
The update means that all Duolingo users, including those using the free version, will be given access to personalized learning feedback. Duolingo says the update reinforces its mission to make effective language learning accessible to everyone.
Explain My Answer was previously only available to users on the Duolingo Max plan. The company says the popular tool takes into account the user’s error and what about the pattern or rule is challenging - this is then used to tailor explanations to users.
Users can choose whether or not they would like feedback on their mistakes.
Explain My Answer will be made available to all English speaking Duolingo users learning Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, and Korean. The company adds that it hopes to expand this to more courses “in the coming months”.
In a statement, Duolingo says: “It’s another step closer to achieving our mission: to develop the best education in the world and make it universally available.”
Earlier this year, Duolingo shared that its language learning app now has 50 million daily users, and this is growing at a rate of 36 percent year-on-year. At the time, Duolingo said that it would continue to focus on AI-driven educational improvements to the app.
“We believe AI will fundamentally transform education and we have line of sight to building a product that teaches better than ever before. That’s what makes this such an exciting moment for Duolingo,” CEO Luis van Ahn previously told investors.
