Varsity Tutors launch Live+ AI Platform for schools

Nerdy Inc’s Varsity Tutors says the platform will deliver next-generation tutoring and teacher support, aligning with the White House’s Executive Order on AI in education.

Live + AI is designed to accelerate learning and close achievement gaps, according to Nerdy Inc, parent company of Varsity Tutors. It claims to combine the insight, empathy and adaptability of expert educators with the precision and scale of AI.

Live + AI offers one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions delivered by experts equipped with AI tools. It also analyzes student skills, learning styles, and schedules to pair them with their ideal tutor.

Using AI tools, Live + AI also offers real-time analytics, summaries of learning progress and opportunities for follow-up instruction as well as 24/7 support, essay reviews and skill-building resources.

The system also offers live classes on core subjects such as math and science, ACT/SAT prep, college and career readiness, led by experts. A suite of AI-powered teacher tools also aim to reduce lesson planning and administrative burden.

The launch follows shortly after an Executive Order signed by US President Donald Trump calling for AI integration across across all US elementary and secondary schools, AI training for teachers and the development of workforce skills.

The Executive Order also specifically mentions tutoring as a key application for AI in education, directing the Secretary of Education to issue guidance on the use of federal funds to improve educational outcomes through AI-based tutoring solutions.

“Artificial intelligence is transforming education - and its impact is greatest when paired with the personal touch, encouragement, and accountability of skilled educators,” claims Chuck Cohn, Founder and CEO at Nerdy Inc and Varsity Tutors.

Varsity Tutors claims tutoring can deliver the equivalent of an additional three to 15 months of learning in a single year, particularly if used alongside human relationships and expert guidance. It claims Live + AI will deliver this, giving each schools district a unified platform combing tutoring, academic support and AI-powered teacher and tutor co-pilot tools.

By automating lesson prep, progress summaries and individualized practice, Varsity Tutors claims its program frees between seven and ten hours a week of time for educators.

“For students, Live + AI delivers truly personalized, high-dosage tutoring that drives measurable academic growth. For teachers, it reclaims seven to ten hours a week by automating lesson prep and progress reports while surfacing real-time insights into every learner’s needs. At this inflection point, we’re partnering with schools nationwide to ensure both students and teachers have the tools to thrive in an AI-driven future.”

Earlier this year, Nerdy announced financial results for the fourth quarter of 2024, reporting revenue of $48.0 million, surpassing the company’s guidance range of $44 million to $47 million.
