Udemy appoints Ramji Sundararajan as president of consumer business

Sundararajan to lead global consumer strategy as Udemy expands AI-driven subscriptions and marketplace growth.

Udemy has appointed Ramji Sundararajan as its new president of consumer, according to a LinkedIn post by CEO Hugo Sarrazin and a formal announcement shared by the company.

Sundararajan will report directly to Sarrazin and take responsibility for all areas of Udemy’s consumer business, including the global learning marketplace used by millions of learners worldwide.

Udemy is a AI-powered skills platform that provides learning content for individuals and organizations. Its model combines on-demand, multi-language courses with real-time innovation in workforce development.

Leadership background and previous roles

Sundararajan joins Udemy from McKinsey & Company, where he was part of the Consumer Technology and Business Building practices. He has held interim executive roles such as chief product officer and chief growth officer for eCommerce and subscription-based businesses. His experience spans product launches, marketplace growth, personalized engagement strategies, and retention.

Sundararajan has also led operational transformation across regions including the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific. He previously co-founded ZALORA Group, a fashion e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia, where he led customer experience, operations, and early-stage growth across seven countries.

Focus on subscription and AI engagement

Udemy states that Sundararajan’s appointment supports its shift toward a subscription-first consumer business model, with an increased emphasis on AI-powered personalization and long-term value creation.

Sarrazin says, “As we accelerate the transformation of our Consumer business, Ramji brings exactly the operational expertise and subscription growth execution that we need at this pivotal moment. His experience scaling global digital platforms and deploying AI-driven personalization to boost engagement aligns perfectly with Udemy’s strategic priorities.”

Sarrazin also wrote on LinkedIn, “Ramji brings a proven track record of scaling global digital platforms, pioneering AI-powered personalization, and driving breakthrough subscription growth.”
