Smartgrade partners with Ochre Education on new Impact Assessment platform
Ochre Education introduces a new assessment service for Australian schools, using Smartgrade’s platform to link benchmarking data with free curriculum resources.
Ochre Education has announced Impact Assessment, a new service designed to support Australian schools with curriculum-aligned benchmarking and reporting.
The update was shared in a LinkedIn post, outlining how the non-profit will use the tool to generate sustainable income while keeping its core curriculum library free for teachers.
Ochre Education provides an open-access, evidence-based curriculum library used by teachers across Australia. Smartgrade, the assessment platform provider behind the new service, develops standardized assessment and reporting tools used widely in UK schools.
In a separate LinkedIn post, Smartgrade co-founder Joshua Perry acknowledged the partnership and said, “This is a BIG deal - Smartgrade are supporting our good friends at Ochre Education to provide high quality assessment to Australian schools via Impact Assessment.”
Impact Assessment service
According to Ochre, Impact Assessment offers curriculum-aligned assessments, reporting tools and standardised semester tests across English, Maths, Science and Humanities. Schools can use ready-made Ochre assessments or upload their own. The platform provides reports that link directly to relevant Ochre resources and recommended next steps.
The service uses Smartgrade’s underlying platform and is offered at a flat rate per school, with unlimited access for teachers and students. Ochre states that “income generated by Impact Assessment will help us keep that promise” of maintaining free core resources. It also confirms that “nothing changes about Ochre’s core resources – they remain free for all schools forever.”
The organisation presents the service as a way for schools to integrate assessments more directly with teaching materials, although details about long-term pricing structures and expected adoption levels have not yet been outlined.
Ochre Education’s broader work includes developing sequenced curriculum materials for Foundation to Year 10, creating evidence-based instructional resources, and offering curriculum-aligned professional learning. The organization cites national inequality data and workload pressures as reasons for building a more consistent resource base for teachers.
Ochre reports that its resource library has been accessed by more than 125,000 teachers, supports 8,600+ schools, and contains over 12,800 items. It states that three in four teachers agree the resources support student progress.
Framing Impact Assessment as an extension of its mission, Ochre Education says, “Working with Impact Assessment is another way to support Ochre’s mission.”
