OpenAI sets Singapore Builder Lounge as APAC startup engagement expands
Indranil Sarkar, who works on startups at OpenAI, took to LinkedIn to announce that the company will host its first-ever OpenAI Builder Lounge in Singapore in early February.
OpenAI develops large-scale artificial intelligence models and developer platforms used by startups and enterprises to build and deploy AI-powered applications.
In the post, Sarkar wrote that the event would bring together AI-native startup founders and technical leaders to connect directly with OpenAI’s startup and solutions teams, exchange ideas, and share current work.
Sarkar wrote, “We are hosting our first-ever OpenAI Builder Lounge in SG in two weeks, and there are a few seats still available.”
Format emphasizes hands-on building over presentations
The Singapore Builder Lounge is scheduled for February 4 from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm and is structured around coworking and live interaction rather than formal talks.
He explained that participants would work side-by-side with other builders, with direct access to OpenAI tools and team members throughout the evening. Sarkar wrote, “Join us at the OpenAI Builder Lounge for an evening of coworking and new connections. You’ll work side-by-side with other builders and learn about the latest products directly from the OpenAI team.”
The format is designed to surface real-world work rather than hypothetical ideas. Sarkar added, “Bring your questions and share what you’ve shipped by the end of the night.”
The program includes coworking sessions with access to Codex, an ask-me-anything session with the OpenAI team, dinner with other founders and developers, and open demos for participants to share what they are building.
Attendance is limited, with applicants asked to provide details about their company, product focus, and what they hope to gain from the session. Accessibility requirements are also captured as part of the application process.
Recent OpenAI hire anchors regional strategy
In a separate LinkedIn post shared last month, Sarkar confirmed that he had joined the OpenAI startups team, positioning the Singapore Builder Lounge within a broader push across the Asia-Pacific region.
Sarkar wrote, “Excited to share that I have joined the OpenAI startups team. Looking forward to working with startups and founders to build category defining AI-native businesses across APAC.”
