E.ON UK brings clean energy careers into classrooms with new KS4 resource

The UK energy provider expands its New Energy Academy during National Careers Week with a KS4–KS5 teaching pack aligned to updated DfE careers guidance.

E.ON UK has introduced a new green skills classroom resource for secondary schools across England, aligning directly with updated Department for Education careers guidance and upcoming Gatsby Benchmark reforms.

Developed in partnership with motorsport organization Veloce, the free KS4–KS5 teaching pack forms part of E.ON’s New Energy Academy and is being rolled out during National Careers Week in the UK.

The initiative connects sport, engineering, and the clean energy workforce, positioning green economy careers within structured, curriculum-aligned learning.

Curriculum-aligned resource tied to Gatsby reforms

The teaching pack is fully aligned for delivery across PSHE, assemblies, and tutor time, with activities designed for 10–15 minute sessions. E.ON states that the content supports schools in delivering real-world learning requirements under Gatsby Benchmarks 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7, including employer encounters and technical route exploration.

The resource includes short video contributions from athletes and industry professionals, including Extreme E driver Kevin Hansen, racing drivers Charlie Martin and Chloe Grant, Team GB rugby player Heather Cowell, and netball coach Chelsea Pitman. Engineers from E.ON’s Net Zero Training Academy also feature, alongside degree apprentices and clean energy specialists.

Linking sport, engineering and clean energy pathways

The resource uses sport as a framework to highlight transferable skills such as resilience, adaptability, teamwork, and problem-solving. Students hear directly from motorsport engineers and E.ON apprentices working across areas including heat pumps, retrofit, EV charging, and smart energy systems.

The program responds to recent curriculum review recommendations calling for stronger alignment between classroom learning and fast-growing sectors such as clean energy and green technology.

The sessions are structured to provide authentic employer encounters while remaining flexible for schools managing timetable pressures.

Reported impact and apprenticeship interest

According to E.ON, early engagement with the New Energy Academy has shown measurable impact. The company reports that 58 percent of students who used the program said they could see themselves working in the energy sector. E.ON also reports a 500 percent increase in interest in its apprenticeship programs since 2023.

The launch coincides with national conversations around workforce pipelines, green economy readiness, and curriculum reform. By embedding employer engagement directly into structured classroom resources, E.ON is positioning its academy as both a careers education tool and a long-term talent development channel.
