EdTech firm PyxiScience secures €2 million funding round for adaptive math learning platform powered by AI tech

PyxiScience, an AI powered adaptive math learning platform for students and teachers in higher and secondary education, has bagged €2 million in a funding round that included participation from Newfund, Invess Île-de-France Amorçage (managed by INCO Ventures), and BPI France.

“All teachers know: to help students improve, you need to assign frequent homework and provide detailed feedback. But with hundreds of students and a shortage of teachers, this is impossible. Until now, no AI could recognise advanced handwritten math and follow reasoning step-by-step to verify its validity. Our technology solves that issue, with over 90% success. PyxiScience empowers everyone by multiplying resources without replacing human teachers. Our goal is to support student success through personalised learning,” say founders Joachim Lebovits and Jacques Lévy Véhel.

The French startup’s platform has been adopted by more than 10,000 students across institutions such as Sorbonne Paris North University and New York University (Paris), with PyxiScience now preparing for international expansion.

It was born from Lebovits’ experience as a university professor for over ten years, facing the challenge of helping students with vastly different skill levels to progress. Confronted with the limitations of traditional solutions, such as manually creating content for each student, and the growing burden of grading, he realised that these difficulties were shared by many teachers, both in secondary and higher education.

He then partnered with Lévy Véhel, a mathematics researcher and artificial intelligence specialist to design a platform that aims to allow students to practice in an unlimited and adaptive way, while offering teachers tools to create content and benefit from assistance in grading their assignments, thus saving them valuable time.

“PyxiScience meets a pressing need in higher education: freeing up educators’ time while better supporting students at scale. Their proprietary technology, born from years of research, paves the way for a new generation of learning tools. At Newfund, we will actively support their go-to-market strategy with a focus on North American universities,” says Marjolaine Catil, Investment Director at Newfund.

“We believe in PyxiScience’s vision to build AI tools that promote educational equity. Their ability to democratise pedagogical excellence while preserving the teacher’s role aligns with our vision of socially responsible tech progress,” says Timothée Metz, Investment Director at INCO Ventures.

RTIH AI in Retail Awards

Our sister title, RTIH, organiser of the industry leading RTIH Innovation Awards, proudly brings you the first edition of the RTIH AI in Retail Awards, which is now open for entries.

As we witness a digital transformation revolution across all channels, AI tools are reshaping the omnichannel game, from personalising customer experiences to optimising inventory, uncovering insights into consumer behaviour, and enhancing the human element of retailers' businesses.

With 2025 set to be the year when AI and especially gen AI shake off the ‘heavily hyped’ tag and become embedded in retail business processes, our newly launched awards celebrate global technology innovation in a fast moving omnichannel world and the resulting benefits for retailers, shoppers and employees.

Our 2025 winners will be those companies who not only recognise the potential of AI, but also make it usable in everyday work - resulting in more efficiency and innovation in all areas.

Winners will be announced at an evening event at The Barbican in Central London on Wednesday, 3rd September.

This will kick off with a drinks reception in the stunning Conservatory, followed by a three course meal, and awards ceremony in the Garden Room.
