Denise Dresser moves to OpenAI as Chief Revenue Officer after 14 years at Salesforce

Former Slack CEO Denise Dresser steps into a new leadership role at OpenAI, taking on global revenue strategy as the company expands enterprise adoption of its AI platform.

Denise Dresser has taken to LinkedIn to announce her departure from Salesforce and Slack and confirm she is joining OpenAI as Chief Revenue Officer.

The company, which develops AI systems including ChatGPT and enterprise-scale deployment tools, says she will oversee global revenue strategy, customer success operations, and enterprise expansion.

Dresser previously led Slack for two years and held senior roles across Salesforce during a 14-year tenure. Her move follows the company’s wider effort to support organizations shifting from isolated AI pilots to integrated, organization-wide deployments.

Shift from Salesforce to OpenAI

In her LinkedIn announcement, Dresser reflects on her transition after more than a decade at Salesforce. She says her experience leading both sales organizations and Slack shaped her approach to supporting large customers adopting new digital tools.

Dresser explains, “Leading Slack has been the honor of a lifetime… we didn’t just grow, we revolutionized how work happens while positioning Slack as the Agentic Work OS for the Agentic Enterprise.” She adds that joining OpenAI is an opportunity to “accelerate enterprise adoption, deepen strategic partnerships, and expand AI's impact globally.”

OpenAI describes her as a leader with experience scaling widely used workplace tools, noting that she has worked with some of the company’s largest enterprise counterparts.

Enterprise adoption drives new CRO role

OpenAI says Dresser will help companies integrate its systems across internal operations and customer-facing applications. The organization cites increasing demand for AI embedded across entire workflows, supported through ChatGPT for Work and the OpenAI API.

Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications, comments, “We’re on a path to put AI tools into the hands of millions of workers, across every industry. Denise has led that kind of shift before, and her experience will help us make AI useful, reliable, and accessible for businesses everywhere.”

The company reports measurable uptake across enterprise customers, with workers reporting faster task completion and expanded capabilities after adopting generative AI tools.

The hire comes as OpenAI positions itself for broader enterprise-scale deployment. Dresser highlights that she has “spent my career helping scale category-defining platforms,” noting she plans to apply that experience as OpenAI enters “its next phase of enterprise transformation.”

Her appointment marks one of the company’s most senior commercial hires to date, aligning with its intention to grow revenue and deepen partnerships as global demand for applied AI continues to rise.
