Dr. Mike Perkins, Head of the Centre for Research & Innovation at British University Vietnam (BUV), shared on social media how he used a CustomGPT tool in teaching his MBA class on Strategic Management.

BUV is a private university in Hanoi offering UK-accredited degrees and research programs, and Perkins leads the university’s work on GenAI policy and innovation.

Perkins said this year’s module included a CustomGPT pre-trained on simulation material and selected academic papers. “Students used this tool throughout their simulation to bounce ideas off, and ask how to carry out tasks in the simulation,” he said. The simulation accounted for 15 percent of the course grade, and the final assessment required students to combine simulation data with the CustomGPT tool for company growth forecasts and self-reflection.

Students responded to the post to describe how the tool shaped their learning. Giang Nguyen, who works in fintech and international business expansion, said, “Thank you Dr Mike Perkins ! It has been a super great and exciting session for this module. Many lessons learnt from the simulation!”

James Ta, Market R&D Manager at Stavian Group, added, “Thanks, Mike! That was a fantastic idea. CustomGPT gave me instant feedback that perfectly matched my study schedule, and the class felt really interactive. Big cheers to the Avolta team!”

Reflecting on the approach, Perkins said, “Using a simulation for this module has always been a great way to keep engagement high and get students to really connect the theory to practice. Helps that the final result of the simulation makes up 15% of the grade!”
