Aston University event explores real-world use of Agentic AI in financial services

Capgemini, Google Cloud, HSBC, Vanguard, and Aston University joined forces at a London event examining how Agentic AI is reshaping financial systems.

Professor Alexeis Garcia Perez, Director of the Aston-Capgemini Centre of Excellence for Enterprise AI, took to social media to highlight a recent industry event focused on AI in financial services.

Hosted at Aston University’s London campus, the event brought together senior representatives from Capgemini, Google Cloud, HSBC, Vanguard, and Sarasin & Partners LLP.

The session included a panel discussion titled “Agents of Change: Shaping the Future of Autonomy in FSI” and featured insights on the practical challenges of implementing AI-driven systems across the financial sector.

Students showcase enterprise AI work

During the event, Aston University students presented their projects developed through the Aston-Capgemini Centre of Excellence for Enterprise AI, under the supervision of Shrinivas Shikhare.

Professor Alexeis Garcia Perez wrote: “It was great to be at the Aston University London campus this evening for a Capgemini, Google Cloud and Aston University Financial Services event, where our students showcased the excellent work they've been doing with the Aston-Capgemini Centre of Excellence for Enterprise AI over the last few months supervised by Shrinivas Shikhare.”

He added: “We discussed the real-world applications of Agentic AI and the challenges of moving from concept to execution. My thanks to Capgemini and Google Cloud for hosting the event.”

AI adoption framed as a business capability

The Aston-Capgemini Centre of Excellence for Enterprise AI, a partnership between Aston University and Capgemini, focuses on bridging the gap between AI hype and enterprise reality. The center promotes scalable, responsible adoption of artificial intelligence within business operations.

Reflecting on the discussion, Garcia Perez wrote: “The biggest barriers to AI adoption are not purely technical. The real enablers for scaling AI solutions are building the right frameworks for governance, trust and validation. AI adoption is a business capability.”
