AI powered EdTech firm Knowunity secures €27 million in Series B funding round headed up by XAnge
Knowunity, a German EdTech startup that has developed an AI powered learning platform for students, has raised €27 million in a Series B round to develop its offering, hire talent, and expand into new markets, particularly the US and Asia.
The round was led by XAnge, with participation from Portfolion, Isomer Capital, Project A, Redalpine and Educapital, alongside business angels, entrepreneur and Startup Association Chair Verena Pausder, and Booking.com Founder Arthur Kosten, bringing the total raised by the venture, which was founded in 2020, to €45 million.
Knowunity’s platform combines personalised AI technology with student generated content with the aim of making learning easier, more motivating, and more effective. It is currently used by 20 million+ students in 15 countries.

Benedict Kurz, Co-founder and CEO at Knowunity, says: “We started Knowunity because education was being left behind. Every other part of our lives - how we shop, connect, or stay fit - was becoming smarter and more personalised. But school? Still one size fits all. With AI, we can finally give students what they actually need: instant feedback, tailored learning plans, and real motivation. Our goal is to make this companion experience available to a billion students worldwide and therewith allow truly personalised education for every student.”
Valerie Bures, Partner at XAnge, says: “Knowunity is revolutionising the entire education system and will, in the future, provide every student with a personal, AI-based learning companion that explains all topics to them and prepares them for their exams.”
RTIH AI in Retail Awards
Our sister title, RTIH, organiser of the industry leading RTIH Innovation Awards, proudly brings you the first edition of the RTIH AI in Retail Awards, which is now open for entries.
As we witness a digital transformation revolution across all channels, AI tools are reshaping the omnichannel game, from personalising customer experiences to optimising inventory, uncovering insights into consumer behaviour, and enhancing the human element of retailers' businesses.
With 2025 set to be the year when AI and especially gen AI shake off the ‘heavily hyped’ tag and become embedded in retail business processes, our newly launched awards celebrate global technology innovation in a fast moving omnichannel world and the resulting benefits for retailers, shoppers and employees.
Our 2025 winners will be those companies who not only recognise the potential of AI, but also make it usable in everyday work - resulting in more efficiency and innovation in all areas.
Winners will be announced at an evening event at The Barbican in Central London on Wednesday, 3rd September.
This will kick off with a drinks reception in the stunning Conservatory, followed by a three course meal, and awards ceremony in the Garden Room.
