IXL Learning has acquired NoRedInk, adding the writing instruction platform to its existing English language arts portfolio
IXL Learning has acquired NoRedInk, adding the US writing instruction platform to its portfolio of English language arts products, which already includes Dictionary.com, Vocabulary.com and IXL ELA.
The deal marks IXL Learning's 14th acquisition since 2018. The financial terms have not been disclosed, while Tucker Capital served as NoRedInk's exclusive financial advisor.
NoRedInk provides personalized writing and grammar instruction for middle and high school students, combining targeted practice, guided composition and assessment tools.
NoRedInk brings writing practice and assessment tools to IXL
The acquisition adds an established writing-focused product to IXL's existing English language arts offering.
NoRedInk allows students to work through activities ranging from sentence construction and grammar practice to longer written assignments. Teachers can access standards-aligned exercises, writing prompts and diagnostic assessments, alongside reporting tools that track student progress.
Its more recent addition, Read-Write-Reason, combines reading, writing and critical thinking activities with personalized feedback and reflection.
The platform also offers an AI-powered Grading Assistant through NoRedInk Premium, which suggests scores and comments on student writing. Other Premium features include writing benchmarks, originality detection and integrations with learning management systems including Canvas and Schoology.
Jeff Scheur, Founder and CEO of NoRedInk, says:
"As technology changes how we work and communicate, the ability to think critically and develop our ideas has never been more important. I’m excited about what NoRedInk and IXL will accomplish together for all the students and teachers who count on us."
NoRedInk to retain its independent brand
IXL Learning says the acquisition will provide NoRedInk with access to its resources and scale, supporting further product development and opportunities to reach additional classrooms.
Paul Mishkin, CEO of IXL Learning, says:
"NoRedInk has built a product with a remarkably deep grasp of how to help teach one of life’s most essential skills. Just as importantly, NoRedInk earned its place in the classroom the right way—through word of mouth from educators who genuinely love using it."
For existing users, the companies have confirmed that NoRedInk will continue operating as an independent brand. Teachers and students are not expected to experience any disruption to the platform following the acquisition.
