9 Best Mapping Tools That Sync With a Live Spreadsheet
Importing a Google Sheet into a map is not the same as syncing one. An import copies the rows as they stood on the day it ran, and every later edit to the sheet stays out of the map until someone uploads the file again.
Compare nine mapping tools that sync with Google Sheets, covering update frequency, sync direction, pricing, and spreadsheet-sharing requirements.
The nine tools below keep reading the sheet after the first upload. They differ on four points: which direction the changes travel, what triggers a refresh, which plan includes it, and whether the sheet has to be open to anyone with the link. Some well-known mappers do not sync at all: BatchGeo updates a map only when the data is pasted again, and Google My Maps and Scribble Maps both refresh through a manual re-import.
Google Sheets Sync Terms, Defined
Vendors use "sync" for several different mechanisms, and each entry below is tagged with the terms from this list that apply to it.
Import: a one-time copy of the sheet. Later edits do not reach the map.
One-way sync: the map reads the sheet, but edits made on the map do not go back to it.
Two-way sync: edits travel both ways, so changing a location on the map also changes its row.
On-edit: the map changes when the sheet changes, with no set waiting period.
Scheduled: the map re-reads the sheet on a timetable, such as every 10 minutes or once a day.
Rebuild: the tool generates a fresh copy of the map from the sheet rather than updating pins in place.
Link-viewable sheet: a sheet shared so that anyone with its URL can view it, which some tools require before they will connect.
1. Maptive
Tags: automatic sync, Google Sheets only.
Maptive limits its live sync to Google Sheets. Excel and CSV files update only when the user re-imports them. Maptive's pages and help articles also do not say how often a connected sheet is read, or in which direction the sync runs.
Within that scope, Maptive says a connected Google Sheet sends edits to the map automatically, "with no re-upload." For data that changes often, the Pro, Team and Enterprise plans include a REST API, which the 45 Day Pass does not. Maptive also imports from Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho, Pipedrive and Keap, but for a CRM feed that stays current, it points users to the API.
2. Mapline
Tags: automatic sync, direction and interval not stated.
Mapline, a web-based business mapping tool for spreadsheet data, connects to Google Sheets through a connector. According to Mapline, the connector "automatically syncs" as the sheet's data updates, and connectors are included on all three paid plans. Mapline also offers territories, routing and drive-time polygons, and the drive-time tool comes with its base paid plan.
Mapline does not say how often the connector checks the sheet, and it does not say whether the free Starter plan includes connectors.
3. Felt
Tags: one-way, scheduled, link-viewable sheet.
Felt, a browser-based mapping platform that now describes itself as AI-native GIS, offers Google Sheets live sync on its Professional and Enterprise plans. A layer added from a sheet gets a Live toggle and a refresh cadence picked from a dropdown, so each layer can run on its own schedule. There is also a manual Refresh button. Felt reads the sheet, and edits do not flow back.
The sheet must be viewable by anyone with the link. Felt's help pages do not list the cadence options. Felt publishes no prices and sells annual contracts only, with a 7-day Professional trial.
4. InstaMaps
Tags: one-way, on-edit (vendor's claim).
InstaMaps is a Google Sheets add-on, and the map is a formula inside the sheet. The formula =INSTAMAP(A1:E200) returns a shareable map URL, and InstaMaps says any edit to those rows "will instantly reflect" on the hosted map. Each sheet tab becomes a color-coded layer.
Geocoding, the step that turns an address into map coordinates, is capped at 100 lookups a day, or 1,000 with a free email unlock. No paid plan or pricing page was found on its site.
5. Mapme
Tags: two-way, on-edit.
Mapme builds branded, embeddable website maps. Its Map To Sheets add-on works in both directions. According to Mapme, updates in Google Sheets "instantly appear" on the map, and edits made on the map go back to the sheet. Google Forms can also feed new locations in.
Map To Sheets requires the Expert plan or above. Expert costs $110 a month billed yearly, which comes to $1,320 a year, or $180 billed month to month. It covers one published map with up to 500 locations.
6. Mapping Sheets
Tags: rebuild, scheduled (premium).
Mapping Sheets, a Google Sheets add-on from developer theXS, works in two steps: BUILD writes the map data to a file in the user's Google Drive, and VIEW opens it. By default the map changes only when someone clicks BUILD again.
The Advanced Premium plan adds an automatic, time-based BUILD. If the sheet has changed, the next one runs "within an hour or more" after the last. That plan also updates the map when a form submits new data. Premium costs $25 per user per month, or $150 per user per year. The free plan allows 50 locations per map.
7. Mapsly
Tags: two-way, scheduled, manual.
Mapsly is a CRM-connected field sales platform, and its Google Sheets sync runs automatically every 10 minutes, with an instant manual sync and a webhook as well. (Mapsly's sync page also gives the interval as 10 to 15 minutes.) Edits made on the map, one at a time or in bulk, are written back to the sheet.
The platform includes territories, routing, heat maps and isochrones, the areas reachable within a set travel time. Mapsly's pricing page showed only Canadian dollars when checked, so no US price is stated here. A 14-day free trial needs no card.
8. Atlist
Tags: scheduled, at a frequency the user sets.
Atlist builds styled Google Maps for embedding on websites. On its Pro plan, $25 a month, a connected Google Sheet syncs at a frequency the user selects, and Atlist says new or edited markers in the sheet "will automatically sync."
Views are metered. Pro includes 2,000 views per 30-day cycle, and each extra view costs $0.009. Atlist does not say whether the sync is one-way or two-way.
9. Mapize
Tags: scheduled (daily), on-demand, link-viewable sheet.
Mapize is a web tool that turns spreadsheets into maps. In its own words, it "re-reads the source and moves the pins," either every day on a schedule or when the user asks. Daily auto-refresh is on the Pro and Pro Plus plans, and the Free and Lite plans refresh manually.
Pro allows 3 auto-refreshing maps, and Pro Plus allows 25. Pro costs $49 a month, or $40.83 a month billed annually. The linked sheet must be shared with anyone who has the link.
In the table below, Maptive and Mapline are the two rows with no published refresh figure, because neither company states one.
