Verkada supports schools serving 20 million students across the world with its AI-powered security technology

Verkada, an AI-powered security technology, has announced its tools are supporting an estimated 20 million students and 2.5 million teachers across the world.

As demand for school safety tools increases, Verkada says many are turning to integrated technology for faster responses.

Verkada offers AI-enabled cameras that improve situational awareness and provide context during investigations. It also offers environmental sensors that can identify vaping and bullying, as well as intercom and guest management systems for monitoring and controlling entry points.

"As schools navigate increasingly complex safety and operational challenges – including campus violence, unauthorized access, and emergencies – educators and administrators are looking for more efficient and reliable ways to protect their communities," comments Filip Kaliszan, Co-Founder at CEO of Verkada.

"As their technology partner, we continue to evolve our solutions to ensure schools have the critical tools they need to proactively identify risks, rapidly respond in emergencies, and create secure environments where students and educators can thrive."

To help ensure schools are able to maintain student privacy, Verkada offers tools including Live Face Blur on video feeds and privacy zones that block specific areas from being recorded.

The news comes as school shootings continue to occur regularly across America. In 2024 alone there were 56 school shooting incidents. The increasing frequency of violent incidents has prompted many school districts to invest in enhanced security measures.

Earlier this year, Verkada announced the formation of its new School Safety Advisory Board, aiming to improve school safety and security across K-12 and higher education institutions. The new board builds on Verkada’s existing partnership with the Safe and Sound Schools and the ‘I Love U Guys’ Foundation.
