Pearson launches AI Literacy Modules to promote responsible AI use and tackle concerns around misuse
Pearson has launched a new series of AI Literacy Modules aiming to give students the skills they need to use AI effectively and ethically.
Launching this autumn, the modules launch amid concerns around the need for students to acquire AI skills alongside concerns around its misuse in education.
“Educators have told us they need help guiding students through the ethical use of AI in their courses to promote learning and uphold academic integrity,” explains Tom ap Simon, President at Pearson Higher Education and Virtual Learning.
“These modules address educators’ concerns head-on while preparing students to use AI to thrive in school and the workforce. They’re part of our broader commitment to teaching AI, personalizing learning with AI, and applying it responsibly in society.”
The AI Literacy Modules will be available in more than 170 MyLab and Mastering courses across STEM, business, health professions, and humanities subjects. The short modules are designed to support real-world applications, covering topics such as how to validate AI-generated results and how to properly cite AI outputs.
The modules will be available in the US and selection of global titles. Learners who complete the modules will earn Credly by Pearson badges, which are recognized by colleges and employers. Those who complete all three modules will be awarded a capstone badge in AI Literacy.
“The modules are fantastic and allow students to absorb information in bite-sized pieces,” addsMiesse, a University of Alabama professor. “Much of the jargon is included, and it is defined nicely for the students.”
