OneAdvanced secures contract with UK’s Ministry of Justice, aiming to transform prisoner education
OneAdvanced, a software provider, has secured a £1.2 million contract with the Ministry of Justice (MoJ). OneAdvanced will provide its Assessment and Learning solution for four years, aiming to “revolutionize skills development” in 104 adult prisons in England.

The OneAdvanced Assessment and Learning solution will support the MoJ’s new Prisoner Education Service. Using AI-powered screening and assessment, it aims to help the MoJ improve the accuracy and consistency of educational evaluations for prisoners.
The implementation will support the development of critical functional maths, English, and digital skills for prisoners and improve their attainment using personalized learning pathways.
OneAdvanced hopes to support future employability opportunities for those released from prison and foster better rehabilitation as a result.
“This project represents a pivotal moment in reshaping prisoner education across England,” comments Mark Dewell, Senior Vice President of Education at OneAdvanced, “By providing accurate assessments through our software, we are not only enabling better education but empowering individuals to rebuild their futures with meaningful skills.”
Earlier this year, research from Swansea University found that limited digital access is preventing people with criminal records from rebuilding their lives and reducing reoffending. The study found that where digital technology was available, it was mostly used for personal or social purposes, such as calling friends or browsing social media, rather than for accessing healthcare, education, or employment opportunities.
