Microsoft has announced new commitments in support of the Presidential AI Challenge and the AI Education Executive Order, which it announced at the White House’s AI Education Task Force meeting.

Microsoft’s Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella joined the meeting, which saw the White House host government officials, education leaders, and executives from the technology sector yesterday for a national event on artificial intelligence and education.

Nadella called AI “the defining technology of our time” as he outlined how Microsoft plans to support its development with training, grants, and access to software for educators and learners.

Microsoft says it plans to empower teachers and students by building AI skills and creating economic opportunities.

The company will offer all college students free access to its Microsoft 365 Personal subscription for 12 months, including its AI assistant Copilot. Students and teachers can also access its LinkedIn Learning courses on foundational AI concepts for free.

Job seekers will also be offered free access to its LinkedIn Learning AI courses.

Schools will be given “expanded access” to Microsoft Elevate, with an announcement with further details expected soon.

Microsoft will also spend $1.25 million on educator grants celebrating outstanding teachers.

“We believe delivering on the real promise of AI depends on how broadly it’s diffused. This requires investment and innovation in AI education, training, and job certification. We applaud the leadership of the First Lady and the White House’s AI Education Task Force. They’re helping to forge a national AI education strategy and partnering with companies across the tech sector and business community,” Microsoft said in a statement.
