JustSystems expands Smile Zemi platform with new course for kindergarten learners in the U.S.

JustSystems has launched a new version of its Smile Zemi tablet-based learning platform, expanding access to kindergarten students across the United States.

The Kindergarten Course is the latest addition to the Japan-based company’s U.S. learning system and follows its earlier rollout for students in grades one through five.

Course covers early years skills and aligns to U.S. standards

The Smile Zemi Kindergarten Course introduces instruction across seven subject areas, including alphabet, English language arts, math, social skills, science, thinking skills, and art and music. The course is structured to align with Common Core State Standards and aims to provide self-paced learning for early learners preparing to enter grade one.

Kyotaro Sekinada, president and chief executive officer at JustSystems, says, “The Smile Zemi method is designed to deliver educational materials that motivate children to study independently. Since our initial launch here in the U.S., we've received incredibly positive feedback from both parents and teachers, and now we are pleased to extend the platform to include Kindergarten-aged children.”

Platform designed as a dedicated learning environment

The Smile Zemi tablet is configured as a closed system that excludes games, social media, and third-party video platforms. According to the company, this approach is intended to reduce distractions and support students working without adult supervision. Students can revisit or move ahead in lessons as needed, based on individual progress.

Arianna McGuinness, a kindergarten teacher at Mountain Way School in Morris Plains, New Jersey, says, “As a kindergarten teacher I absolutely love the Smile Zemi Kindergarten Course as it is easy to use and helps to support all the critical learning required as children in Kindergarten. Once again, Smile Zemi has done an exceptional job of providing a means by which kindergarteners can learn independently and be prepared for the challenges of kindergarten.”

Expansion marks full pathway from kindergarten through grade five

With this launch, the Smile Zemi curriculum now spans from kindergarten through fifth grade. The platform will be showcased at upcoming homeschool conventions throughout the U.S., where attendees can test the device firsthand.

Sekinada says, “Our Smile Zemi in-home learning system will be a welcome addition for parents of children entering Kindergarten, providing the tools important to allowing them to succeed during their first year of educational classroom learning.”
