Stanford University has confirmed that Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, will deliver the institution’s 135th commencement address on June 14, 2026.

The announcement highlights ongoing connections between major technology companies and higher education institutions, particularly as universities prepare students for a labor market increasingly shaped by AI, digital skills, and global technology platforms.

Pichai, a Stanford alumnus who completed a master’s degree in materials science and engineering, is set to address graduates and their guests at Stanford Stadium. The ceremony will mark his first in-person commencement speech.

The news was shared via LinkedIn, where Pichai acknowledged the invitation, stating: “Thank you to Stanford President Jon Levin and the students & faculty for the invitation. Excited to celebrate with the Class of 2026 and their proud parents, family & friends! Will have to dig out that old sweatshirt…”

Big Tech and higher education links continue

Pichai’s return to Stanford comes as universities continue to engage more closely with technology leaders, particularly those shaping AI development and digital infrastructure used across education and the workplace.

His career trajectory, from Stanford graduate to leading products such as Google Chrome, reflects the pathways many institutions aim to prepare students for, particularly in areas linked to engineering, product development, and global technology platforms.

Stanford President Jon Levin also commented on the announcement, stating: “Sundar is a deeply thoughtful leader who has a vivid sense for how technology can improve society and transform individual lives. He epitomizes what it means for a Stanford graduate to have a broad impact.”

Commencement addresses have increasingly become a platform for technology leaders to share perspectives on innovation, workforce skills, and the future of work.

Pichai’s involvement aligns with wider trends across higher education, where institutions are placing greater emphasis on AI literacy, digital skills, and the role of technology in shaping career pathways.

His appearance at Stanford’s 2026 ceremony is expected to reflect these themes, as graduates enter a workforce undergoing rapid transformation driven by advances in AI and global technology platforms.
