Westcliff targets tech talent gap with new Toronto campus and master’s degree in information systems

Westcliff University will open its first international campus in 2025, offering a master’s degree in information systems technology focused on AI, cybersecurity, and enterprise IT.

Westcliff University is establishing its first international campus in Toronto, with plans to enroll students beginning July 2025. The expansion supports workforce development in Ontario’s growing technology sector.

Headquartered in Irvine, California, Westcliff offers undergraduate and graduate degrees across business, education, engineering, and technology. Its new Canadian campus will be located inside Venture Lab’s innovation space in Markham, just north of Toronto.

Graduate program designed in collaboration with local industry

The move includes the launch of a new Master’s in Information Systems Technology (MIST) program. Developed in consultation with Toronto-area IT firms and tech leaders, the program targets mid-career professionals and recent graduates seeking applied training in high-demand digital skills.

The curriculum includes short eight-week course cycles with flexible online and in-person options. It also features a project-based Innovation Sandbox, faculty with real-world expertise, and a structure designed to respond to shifting industry needs.

Dr. Anthony Lee, president and CEO of Westcliff University, says: “Toronto is a recognized force in global technological innovation, and our institution is honored to support its impressive trajectory. Establishing a presence in Canada enables us to deepen multinational knowledge exchange while delivering the hands-on, job-oriented education that defines Westcliff.

“With a 30-year legacy of market-driven education, we are committed to staying attuned to shifting industry trends and integrating regional insights with global expertise. Our focus is on graduating employment-ready leaders equipped to drive advancement, contribute to their local economy and help solidify Toronto’s position as a world-class technology hub.”

Program delivery will be monitored by industry advisory group

The MIST program will be overseen by a Toronto-based Program Advisory Committee, which includes local technology professionals who will help align the curriculum with current labor market demands. Students will also receive access to industry networking and career opportunities through the Markham innovation ecosystem.

Frank Scarpitti, Mayor of Markham, says: “Toronto is proud to welcome Westcliff University as a valuable addition to support our region’s burgeoning tech landscape. By cultivating a skilled workforce that aligns with industry needs, Westcliff is equipping future professionals with the specialized skills and leadership capabilities that will yield even more innovation and economic prosperity in our city.”
