University of Phoenix shares report on workforce learning and increasing use of generative AI technologies

A new report published by the University of Phoenix explores the adoption of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and considers strategies for building a future-ready workforce.

Based on a survey of more than 600 HR leaders and workers, the report shows a rapid shift in how employees and employers are seeking to leverage generative AI technologies.

The report, titled 2025 Generative AI Report: Learning Fuels Human + AI Collaboration, was produced in collaboration with Jeanne Meister, a HR consultant. Its findings highlight that learning leaders are using AI to increase efficiency and drive innovation in learning.

The 2025 report follows the University’s 2024 GenAI Report: L&D’s Breakthrough Moment and shows significant year-over-year growth in HR and learning leaders’ use of generative AI in learning and development, up from 40 percent in 2024 to 74 percent in 2025.

The report also highlights an emerging shift toward more integrated human and AI collaboration. Rather than simply assigning tasks to generative AI, employees are increasingly working as co-creators with the technology, quickly developing AI oversight skills.

Nearly half of leaders and 39 percent of employees surveyed expressed an interest in developing the ability to co-create alongside AI.

The report also identifies a gender gap in the use of generative AI and a disconnect between perceptions of AI between leaders and employees. While 63 percent of men reported using generative AI at work at least once a month, just 47 percent of women said the same.

Employees cited a lack of clear policies on the use of AI as a top concern.

“The report confirms that learning leaders have quickly realized the value of GenAI tools, and their success in reinventing the learning experience can help transform talent development,” explains Raghu Krishnaiah, Chief Operating Officer at theUniversity of Phoenix.

“Companies moving to a talent development model where they’re integrating GenAI technology, skills analytics and assessment, remote learning, microlearning, and simulations that immerse the working learner will be able to realize the benefits of having the right people with the right skills in the right role.”

The latest report follows shortly after the University of Phoenix unveiled three new professional development pathways to address the growing demand for expertise in AI and Big Data.
