Udemy acquires AI stock image creator Lummi to enhance its courses with AI-generated designs and illustrations

Udemy, an AI-powered skills development platform, has acquired Lummi, a creative technology group that provides AI-driven design tools to accelerate and simplify the creative process.

Udemy’s instructors will be able to enhance its courses with customer illustrations, visual storytelling, and AI-generated content using Lummi tools.

Founded in 2020, Lummi has been used by creatives on platforms such as Canva, Figma, and Adobe Express. As a result of the deal, Udemy’s business customers will be able to use Lummi Pro as an add-on to its current enterprise and team plan offerings.

Lummi also joins Udemy’s Innovation Studio and will play a key role in product innovation and tool development. Udemy says the acquisition reinforces its commitment to providing instructors, learners, and enterprise customers with expert instruction and the practical tools needed to apply skills in real-world settings.

The move is said to be a step toward Udemy’s wider goal of revamping its Instructor Academy, a suite of tools including Lummi, Role Play, Assessments and Labs aiming to make its courses more interactive and relevant to learners.

“At Udemy, we believe skills development should go beyond content consumption, it should activate real skills that are relevant, AI-driven, and work-ready,” says Hugo Sarrazin, President and CEO at Udemy. “Integrating Lummi’s intuitive AI tools enhances how learners and instructors apply their skills, while enabling enterprises to create more engaging, customized content. This move advances our transformation strategy to evolve into a comprehensive, AI-enabled platform for upskilling and reskilling, where instruction, practice, and tools align to drive real outcomes.”

The news comes shortly after Udemy announced a suite of new AI Packages designed to help organizations and professionals develop AI fluency. An AI Readiness Package includes 50 curated courses along with a structured introduction to AI concepts. Learners will also have access to the Udemy AI Assistant which provides real-time coaching and in-course support to help the learner better understand the concepts and tools being taught.
